Colonial Project Requirements
For our colonial Office Mix Slide project, you will need to be doing work at home and at school. The attached documents outline the requirements, focus correction areas, and suggested websites and search engines to help with your research. There is no excuse for not being prepared for homework and classwork each day! If you forget something at school, be sure to contact a friend as needed to help you out. Worst case scenario - you look online for answers to some of the questions!

OfficeMix Tutorial:
Research Safely!
The following Learning Links will help you search safe, teacher approved sites for your project. Please note that there is no perfect tool to filter out some unnecessary information, but these sites will be more useful and more protected than a general Google or Bing search.

Kiddle
At this site, you can search for answers to specific questions and it will bring you to mostly educational sites. This is also a GREAT search engine to use when looking for images. Try to be specific and at times, creative, with the images you are searching for. If you don't find what you're looking for at first, try a different way of saying it.

Colony Fact Cards
This PDF gives you 13 factual cards about each of the individual colonies in an easy to understand format. Please note that I pulled these from a fellow 5th grade teacher's site (Mr. Bowen from Peters Elementary in Broken Arrow, OR), but the original sources are noted on the last page of the PDF.
Mr. Zoller's Podcasts
Check out the video/podcast that goes along with your region. Mr. Zoller, a 7th grade teacher in Ohio created a video series for his social studies classes. Each of the regional podcasts is a little over 10 minutes long, but contains a wealth of information. The best part is you can watch and re-watch these videos as often as you need to. You can even pause the videos as you are working and taking notes!
Mejia's 13 Colonies Adventure
This Symbaloo page will help you navigate to quite a few helpful sites. Please note a couple links are no longer active on this site. If that happens, just move on to another link until you find what you need.
