5E Updates:
Keeping up with the learnings and happenings in room 112!
Hello families of House 5E!
We cannot believe how quickly this school year is coming to a close! We have truly cherished our time with this wonderful group of young people, and are eager to enjoy some "down time" with the kiddos (after wrapping-up final assessments and projects)!
On Friday, June 14th, all grade 5 students will participate in Field Day from about 8:15-11:00. Our amazing "Room Parents" have volunteered to help run our "Knock-Out" (basketball) station, and are also working hard to organize some special "extras" for the day! They are donating waters and popsicles for the children to enjoy during their mid-day break. That being said, students are also encouraged to bring additional water bottles and dress for the heat and activities. Sneakers are a must, and applying sunscreen before coming to school is also strongly recommended.
Each House has decided on a specific color to wear for Field Day, to foster a sense of team spirit! House 5E will be wearing white. If each student could please bring in a plain white t-shirt by Thursday, June 13th, we are going to have the kids decorate/sign each other's shirts to be ready for Field Day, the next day. We are also asking each student to bring in $4.00 no later than Monday, June 10th. This money will be spent, by our Room Parents, on: sharpies for writing on the t-shirts, white bandannas to be worn on Field Day, and 2 slices of cheese pizza for our "pizza party" (directly following Field Day). Thank you, in advance, as we're sure Field Day will be an exciting day for all!
Dates to Remember:
Friday 6/7: Math Game Board Project is due.
Monday 6/10: $4.00 due
Thursday 6/13: Bring a plain white t-shirt to school.
Friday 6/14: Field Day and Pizza Party 😊
Tuesday 6/18: Last day of school - students dismissed at 11:37. No lunches served (students may want to bring extra snacks).
One additional note: We had the opportunity to eat outside with our students, today, and noticed that many kiddos did not bring, nor purchase, a lunch. A few said that they rarely eat lunch while here at school. As we do not supervise students in the cafeteria, we were surprised by the number of children not eating. We thought it was worth mentioning, as you may want to check-in with your son or daughter.
Thank you, again, for helping us to make Field Day a success and for ALL of your support this school year! We have truly enjoyed working with our students and know they are prepared for a great start to grade 6!

May 17th:
Happy Friday, families!
What a week it has been! Students worked very hard this week on the math MCAS and on their Number the Stars tests. We are celebrating the completion of our novel study today with the movie "Miracle at Midnight," which has a very similar plot to Number the Stars.
Next week, students will take the Science MCAS. Cynthia Lord, author of Rules, will be visiting the students on Monday afternoon. Students will be working on their body paragraphs of their argument writing pieces next week, and we will be finishing up DRA's.
Time is flying by!
Enjoy your weekends!

April 22nd:
Hello friends and families! I hope that you all enjoyed April break and are ready to get back into the swing of things! Only 40 more days of school! Can you believe it?!
First, I would like to share that I am so proud of our House 5E kiddos. They worked so hard on the ELA MCAS the week before vacation, and they have been so engaged in our novel study on Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry.
This week, students will read through chapters 10, 11, and 12 of Number the Stars, and will continue having guided book club discussions. I will also begin the Spring DRA, so some students will be taking that assessment this week.
In writing, we are just getting into our argument unit. Students are learning about the differences in opinion, persuasive, and argument writing. They'll be generating ideas for their own argument writing pieces this week!
In social studies, we are reviewing some of the events that led up to the start of the Revolutionary War, and will soon be getting into the battles. Let me know if you have any questions!
